That 15 pounds of sugar resulted in some major generosity!

I'll just cut to the chase...

Lily tripled her earnings from last year and doubled her fundraising goal!
Amount raised (so far): $1,800!!

Praise God for a generous community!

A few touching stories

Four siblings walk up to the stand, carrying a Ziplock bag with money from their bank. The bag reads "Give". It was a generous donation for young children. They said this was to help "get rid of the bad guys", which is a common phrase we use with our own children when talking about their dad's cancer and praying that the medicine "gets rid of the bad guys" in his body.

Someone Christian and I graduated high school with came to the booth in between getting an updo for a wedding and grabbing lunch for the wedding party. This is a person neither of us new very well, but are Facebook friends with. We were both touched that she came out of her way to grab a cup of lemonade and support the cause.

We are overjoyed with the number of friends asking if they can mail a donation or make a donation online even, so we think the total amount raised will be closer to $2,000! Maybe online donations will be year three! (And, no worries if you couldn't make it out this year. You can always try out Lily's delicious lemonade next time around.)

It's all about community

While I am very proud of my daughter and our whole family's effort in what has turned into an annual thing, I am more proud of the community coming together to support a good cause. I get all warm and fuzzy when something brings a community together, doing life together. And look at the next generation. Don't they look like a promising bunch to you?

Thank you!

So many had a hand in helping Lily out. Thank you, Papaw, for being instrumental with signage! Thank you Mimi and Nana for your delicious cookies! Oh, and we can't forget the super cute matching aprons made by Mimi! Thank you Trinity, for the canopy, and the Fitzgerald's, for using their tables again. Thank you to all the friends giving us a shout on on Facebook and helping spread the word.

It takes a village, right?

How it all started

Miss Lily picked up this Indiana Lemonade Day packet a few years back at the zoo. She asked about participating, and I think my answer at the time was something like, "maybe next year." And here we are! Ha!

Where will the proceeds go?
In case you missed it, all proceeds will go to causes benefiting cancer patients and their caregivers: the SON Foundation and the Chastain Family.

The SON Foundation will open its doors soon and provide a home for cancer patients to stay in while receiving treatment at IU. Their story is inspiring, and you can read more about it here. http://www.sonfoundationindy.org/

The other half of the proceeds will help a special family in our community, the Chastain Family, as the father, Andy, is undergoing treatment for brain cancer.

On behalf of Lily and all our family, thank you for your kindness and generosity!

And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. Hebrews 13:16

In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”  Acts 20:35

One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.  Proverbs 11:24-5
